Core inflation was flat in February. The Fed's inflation guage (the core PCE deflator) rose only 1.8% compared to a year ago. Spending was up ouly 0.1%.

The bump up in crude oil prices lately has a dampening effect on inflation. The politics of oil price movements act like the invisible other "Fed".
